However staff subnets might have a little more access to certain things and it's no longer enough to allow a device on even if the user authenticates. I'm guessing the Student subnets are probably a little more open, but they will be limited in terms of which other subnets they can reach, or what they can reach on those other subnets. Knowing who is using a device is one thing, stopping unauthorised devices getting onto a network is another. MAC whitelisting isn't great because a MAC can be forged, but in an enterprise setting they might want to control which devices get access to the LAN. Can it prevent me from logging into another user ID if I am using same MAC address? I just don’t see it because that would clearly be unnecessary and extreme. The people at my school said it was a backup in case enterprise wifi one day got cracked.

Obviously, I need my user ID to sign into campus WiFi so MAC whitelisting is pointless and every time I bring a new device it lets me log in with my info and I can reach Internet. Also, wouldn't MAC address whitelisting prevent me from being able to bring new devices onto campus? Why do they even need it if they have enterprise WiFi? They have everyone's use id so they can identify people as soon as they log into WiFi and have a very good system of doing it that is extremely difficult to crack. So I was told by cybersecurity people at my school that in addition to enterprise wifi they also use MAC whitelisting.
